I came to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1991 as assistant to the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry. I became managing editor of the American Journal of Ophthalmology in 1993 under Editor-in-Chief Bradley R. Straatsma, MD, JD, founding chair of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology. I was administrator of the Stein Eye Institute Clinical Research Center in 2003, founded Eye Cite Editing in 2008, served as the communications consultant to the International Council of Ophthalmology beginning in 2009, and became managing editor of Stein Eye Institute publications in 2012.

Oversee Stein Eye publications, from concept through design and publication, including creation of a book celebrating the Institute's 50th anniversary.

Wrote content for monthly newsletters, educational curricula, and scientific articles.

Managing Editor, American Journal of Ophthalmology

Served with Editor-in-Chief Bradley R. Straatsma, MD, JD, supervising the peer review process of thousands of ophthalmic journal articles. Implemented editorial innovations, strengthened the peer review process, and enhanced the print journal. Collaborated with authors, peer reviewers, and the publisher in the preparation and publication of scientific manuscripts, editorials, and perspectives. Reported to the AJO Editorial Board, prepared annual reports, yearly budgets, and strategic planning statements. Supervised a comprehensive re-design of the AJO, initiated CD-Rom products, and oversaw the design and launch of www.ajo.com on the world-wide-web in 1994.

Administrator, UCLA Stein Eye Institute Clinical Research Center

Supervised ophthalmic clinical research trials in partnership with investigators, study coordinators, and governmental agencies, Served as secretary of the Clinical Research Committee and was liaison to the UCLA Office for the Protection of Human Research Subjects. Responsible for communicating Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies to investigators, I ensured compliance with University policies, federal regulations, and state laws. I established standardized cost centers for ophthalmic services, prepared grant materials, IRB and Informed Consent forms, and served as a resource for the public, disseminating information about current clinical trials and patient-care services.
