I have had the pleasure of working directly with Tina-Marie Gauthier since 2012 when she became Managing Editor of Publications for the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and the Stein Eye Institute.

As our Managing Editor, Tina leads and is intimately involved with every stage of the publication process, from concept through design.

I would like to commend Tina for her excellent writing skills, professionalism, and collaborative spirit. She is extremely knowledgeable about the Institute, its mission, and its goals, and we have entrusted her with communicating our activities and achievements through EYE Magazine, Clinical Update, Annual Reports, and her creation of the Stein Eye Institute's superb anniversary book, “50 Years of Vision."

Tina’s role in representing the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and the Stein Eye Institute is distinctly appreciated, and we could not be more pleased with her performance.

Finally, Tina is a delight to work with!

The creation of the book, ARDS: 40 Years; An Oral History of the Aspen Retinal Detachment Society 1973-2012, is one of the penultimate achievements of the ARDS and owes its completion and excellence to the superb skills of Tina-Marie Gauthier.

Ms. Gauthier developed, directed, wrote, and edited this 40th Anniversary publication. This book was unique in several ways that highlight Tina’s excellence. I have been involved in multiple publication projects while at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for the last two decades, this project though, was the first oral history and required significantly more focus and vision to complete. Tina’s efforts from conception to completion were THE critical components leading to this publication. Tina’s ability to work autonomously was seen throughout the work, highlighted by her excellent interview skills (personally interviewing every individual in the book), ability to acquire and condense diverse interviews into a cogent, stimulating, and humorous text; and finally, to move through first drafts to galley proofs to finished production. The ARDS oral history is beautiful, wonderfully written, laid out, and illustrated. Tina captured the essence of the individual interviews and highlighted both the contributions, and subtly, the personalities of the individuals involved. During this period, Tina stayed on point, on budget, and on time. She had a remarkably “smooth” presence that greatly facilitated this complex publication and allowed us to meet our annual meeting publication deadline. The book was the highlight of the annual meeting honoring the 4th decade of the ARDS.

It is my distinct pleasure to recommend Tina-Marie Gauthier and her impeccable work as a communications professional.

I have had the privilege of working with Tina for nearly ten years. Tina was recommended to our organization through one of our board members and stepped in while our communications manager was on maternity leave. We were so impressed with Tina’s work that we kept her on as a communications consultant even after that time.

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) has a diverse and professional audience. Tina not only picked up the voice of the ICO, she became it. Her writing style was used as the model for training new employees. During all this time, Tina demonstrated her ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. At any given moment, she could be working on a scientific paper and writing news articles for our monthly e-newsletter, ICO Insight.

Aside from the high-quality work Tina consistently produces, she is also a delight to work with on a personal level. We enjoyed working with her so much that she became the honorary member of our annual holiday party.

I cannot sing Tina’s praises enough and strongly recommend her as a communications professional. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you would like to discuss further.
